Reflections: Senior Lifestyles

Monday, March 12th, 2007

A lot of jokes and comments are made by and among seniors on the internet about the “golden years”, medical and physical afflictions of growing older, limitations on activities, all sorts of not so good stuff.

Then again, we see stories and articles about the joys of growing older, retirement activities enjoyed by seniors, financial blessings of being retired, all sorts of good stuff.

On television there are a lot of ads for retirement communities. All of them are picturing senior citizens in the pink of health, dancing, exercising, eating great meals, traveling, and otherwise enjoying life on a daily basis. They don’t advertise the price of all these amenities; however I’ve researched some of them and gotta tell you, they cost plenty. But if you, as an individual retiree have it - use it and enjoy it!

I think the truth lies somewhere in between. Most of us have sufficient income to meet our needs; maybe even a little extra. If we don’t, well, we may go back to work part time, so we can live as we choose.

Whatever the case may be, each one of us has a certain lifestyle. It may be the one we have chosen for ourselves, or one that has been chosen due to financial needs, health issues, family considerations.

This blog was originally designed to address all these issues but it seems that it became a bit complicated for some of my readers. So I have decided to make a few changes, limit the topics and narrow down the categories, so it is not so complex.

I hope that you will become a regular reader and that you will post your real life comments so I’ll know if I am meeting your interests and needs.
